HDF flooring in Egypt, made in Belgium, installed by GCT.
GCT supplies and installs Forest HDF laminate flooring, produced at a Unilin plant in Belgium, for apartments, villas, hotels, offices and retail across Egypt. 7 mm and 8 mm boards in AC4 and AC5 wear classes, with the underlays, profiles and skirting to finish the job, and our own installation teams in Cairo and Alexandria.
What “HDF flooring” actually is.
In Egypt, HDF is the everyday name for laminate flooring: a board with a high-density fibreboard (HDF) core, a decorative layer printed with a wood or stone design, a hard melamine wear overlay on top and a balancing layer underneath. The boards click together and float over an underlay, so there is no glue, no sanding and no finishing on site, and a typical apartment can be installed in a day or two.
Because the core is dense engineered wood fibre rather than solid timber, HDF flooring is dimensionally stable in Egypt’s heat and dry air, resists scratches from chairs, pets and children, and costs a fraction of solid wood or engineered parquet while giving a convincing wood look. The wear class (AC rating) tells you how much traffic a board is built for.
GCT supplies Forest HDF, manufactured in Belgium at one of Unilin’s largest processing plants, with a dedicated research and quality-assurance team behind every board and a click system designed for fast, tight installation. We stock the range in Cairo, provide samples and decor boards, and install with our own teams.
Forest HDF ranges we stock in Egypt.
AC ratings follow the European laminate standard EN 13329. AC4 corresponds to class 32 (general commercial use) and AC5 to class 33 (heavy commercial use). Choose the class by the busiest area the floor will see, not the average, and ask us for the current decor catalogue.
HDF laminate, engineered wood or vinyl?
- A wood look at the lowest cost per square metre.

Installed properly, HDF flooring lasts.
Almost every complaint about HDF flooring in Egypt, from lifting joints to creaking and gaps, comes from the subfloor, the underlay or missing expansion gaps rather than from the board. GCT installs with its own trained teams so the floor performs the way the manufacturer intended.
HDF flooring prices in Egypt.
HDF flooring is priced per square metre. The main drivers are thickness (7 mm or 8 mm), wear class (AC4 or AC5), the decor and whether a V-groove edge is required, plus the underlay, skirting and profiles, and installation. Imported European boards cost more per square metre than the budget boards sold in local markets; the difference is in the core density, the wear overlay and the click system, which is what decides how the floor looks after five years.

What does HDF stand for?
High-density fibreboard: compressed wood fibres bonded under heat and pressure into a dense, stable board. In flooring it is the core of a laminate plank, and in Egypt the whole product is usually just called HDF.
Is HDF flooring waterproof?
No. Quality HDF laminate is water-resistant for spills that are wiped up promptly, but it should not be installed in bathrooms, wet kitchens or anywhere water stands. For wet areas we recommend vinyl flooring.
Which thickness should I choose, 7 mm or 8 mm?
7 mm AC4 is suitable for bedrooms and apartments. 8 mm boards feel more solid, are quieter underfoot and are the better choice for living areas, villas, hotels and any commercial space; choose 8 mm AC5 for the heaviest traffic.
What is the difference between AC4 and AC5?
AC ratings measure the abrasion resistance of the wear overlay under the European laminate standard EN 13329. AC4 (class 32) is rated for general commercial use and AC5 (class 33) for heavy commercial use. Both are more than adequate for homes.
Can HDF flooring be installed over existing ceramic tiles?
Usually yes, provided the tiles are firmly bonded and the surface is flat within tolerance. The floor floats on an underlay, so the tiles are not removed, which saves time and cost in renovations.
How long does HDF flooring last?
A correctly installed AC4 or AC5 floor from a quality manufacturer typically serves 10 to 15 years or more in residential use, and manufacturers back their ranges with written warranties. Direct sunlight, standing water and missing expansion gaps are the usual causes of early failure.
Do you supply HDF flooring in Alexandria and outside Cairo?
Yes. We have a branch in Alexandria, stock in Cairo and installation teams that work across Egypt.
