Engineered wood flooring in Egypt, real wood built to stay flat.
GCT supplies and installs pre-finished engineered wood and parquet flooring for villas, apartments, hotels and executive offices across Egypt: a genuine hardwood surface on a stable multi-layer core that handles Cairo’s heat and Alexandria’s humidity far better than solid timber. Specified at the design stage, supplied with full documentation and installed by our own team.
What engineered wood flooring is, and why it suits Egypt.
Engineered wood, sometimes called pre-engineered wood or engineered parquet, is a real wood floor built in layers: a top layer of solid hardwood, usually oak, bonded to a core of cross-laid plywood or HDF and a balancing backing. The cross-layer construction stops the plank from cupping, shrinking and gapping with changes in temperature and humidity, which are the problems that plague solid wood floors in Egypt’s climate.
Boards arrive pre-finished from the factory with a lacquered or oiled surface, so there is no sanding, staining or varnishing on site, no dust and no drying time. The floor can be glued down or installed floating, and because the wear layer is real wood it can be sanded and refinished later, which laminate cannot.
GCT selects engineered wood ranges for Egyptian conditions and supplies them with the underlays, adhesives, profiles and skirting that a lasting installation needs, then installs with our own trained teams in Cairo and Alexandria. Samples and decor boards are available from our Cairo office.
Engineered wood, solid parquet or HDF laminate?
Formats, species and finishes.
- Formats: wide planks, classic strips, herringbone and chevron parquet patterns, and panels for feature areas.
- Species and grades: European oak as the mainstream choice, with other species and grading from clean select boards to rustic, knotty character grades.
- Finishes: matt and satin lacquers for durability and easy cleaning; natural oils for a warm, repairable surface; brushed, smoked and colour-stained options.
- Profiles and accessories: matching skirting, stair nosings, transition strips and underlays to complete the installation.
We help you choose by room use, light exposure and maintenance expectations. A lacquered oak plank in a hotel corridor and an oiled herringbone floor in a villa reception are different specifications, and both need the right subfloor and adhesive underneath them. Bring the drawings and we will propose formats, finishes and a budget, with samples to take to site.

Engineered wood flooring prices in Egypt.
Price per square metre is driven by the thickness of the hardwood wear layer, the species and grade, plank width and length, the pattern (herringbone and chevron cost more to produce and to install), the finish, the quantity and the installation method. Engineered wood sits above HDF laminate in cost and close to solid parquet, but with a lower lifetime cost because it needs no site finishing and resists movement.

What is the difference between engineered wood and solid wood flooring?
Solid wood is one piece of timber. Engineered wood is a hardwood top layer bonded to a cross-laid core. Both are real wood on the surface, but engineered boards are far more stable in heat and humidity, arrive pre-finished and can be installed floating or over underfloor heating.
Is engineered wood flooring suitable for Egypt’s climate?
Yes, and that is its main advantage here. The cross-layer core resists the shrinking, cupping and gapping that solid parquet suffers in dry summer heat and in coastal humidity, provided the subfloor is dry and the boards are acclimatised before installation.
Can engineered wood be sanded and refinished?
Yes. Depending on the thickness of the hardwood wear layer, an engineered floor can be sanded and refinished one or more times over its life, which laminate cannot.
What does pre-finished mean?
The lacquer or oil is applied in the factory under controlled conditions, so the floor is ready to walk on as soon as it is installed, with no sanding, no fumes and a harder, more even finish than site-applied varnish.
Can it be installed over underfloor heating?
Generally yes, glued down with a suitable adhesive and kept within the manufacturer’s temperature limits. Confirm the specific product with our technical team before ordering.
Engineered wood or HDF laminate?
Choose engineered wood for real timber, refinishing and a premium feel. Choose HDF laminate for the lowest cost, fastest installation and scratch resistance in high-traffic or budget-driven projects.
Do you install outside Cairo?
Yes. We hold stock in Cairo, have a branch in Alexandria and install across Egypt, including the North Coast and the Red Sea resorts.
